Mission Statement: Knit. Learn. Laugh.
The Fraser Valley Knitters’ Guild meets monthly to share a passion for knitting and a desire to improve and preserve knitting technique.
Our community of knitters includes beginners, expert, and plenty of in-betweens.
We welcome knitters of every skill level and of all persuasions.
While we each have our preferences, we’re friendly to a multitude of fibres, a variety of needles, and a plethora of projects.
If you’re looking for encouragement and support, an audience who’ll appreciate your bragging, or just somewhere new to knit, join us!
PURPOSES: The Motto of the Guild is “Knit Learn Laugh’ and the purposes of the guild shall be:
1. To promote, encourage, improve and preserve the art and craft of knitting and crocheting.
2. To provide an opportunity for the sharing of knowledge, skills and ideas among the members in a welcoming and non-judgmental manner regardless of members skill levels or technique and/or fibre preferences.
3. To be active in the community in a variety of ways but not limited to demonstration, general sharing of information or charity projects.
Please leave a comment here, join us for a meeting or contact us via e-mail for more information.
Great blog! Amazing work done!
I would like to learn to knit, but have absolutely no idea where to start… any suggestions on how to get going?
I love wool, always have. So I buy it and store it because I don’t know how to knit. I need to learn so that I can use all the wonderful wool and patterns that I have bought over the years. Where can I learn in the evenings or on some weekends???
It’s not hard to find some great classes at local knitting shops, or check on Ravelry for local knit nights. People are very willing to share their knowledge. Even at a coffee shop. Depends on your neighborhood. Some local knitting shops are open for a group knit in the evening as well.
There are some great videos on you tUbe.
IF you are near new westminster, i would love to meet you at the knitting store on columbia or the coffee shop. i am not an expert but i could teach you to do the basics. i am fairly new in town and really need to get involved. can’t drive at night due to cataracts but fine during the day. happy knitting. night night.
GOOGLE……..KNITTING UTUBE AND THEY WILL ALL POP UP. GOOD LUCK
I can knit but I have a passion for crocheting. I also find most sites as knit friendly and not very helpful for crocheters. I also find that knitting patterns offer more variety and look better than a lot of crochet patterns so I make up my own a lot. Do you convert any of your patterns to crochet or where can I go to get knit patterns converted to crocheting.
We are Crochet friendly, but I am afraid that you would be better to come for a meeting and ask the members. We don’t really have folks declare themselves with a craft preference in our lists. Personally, this blog author cannot answer that question, as I cannot crochet well enough to look for patterns.
I am looking to commission two of my designs (part of a wider collection based on multi-cultural myths of Raven; anyone interested should be experienced in the Intarsia technique. Both designs for sweater dresses are of two colours only (turquoise/black & pink/black) I have already had some preliminary test dyeing done; the yarn selected is DK Baby Alpaca. I have patterns for each derived from muslin tracings. Thanks to anyone who may be interested.
Hi, is there anyone that would be interested in giving the odd lesson? I used to knit but it was a long time ago. I’m trying to knit a pair of slippers but am stumped 🙂 I will gladly pay for private lessons that i may need once in a while. Thanks!
Help!!! I am knitting a scarf for my Granddaughter and I am going to run out of yarn!!! I purchased the yarn from Knitopia in White Rock and they have closed their doors…. Does anyone know how I can reach Lynne and Chris Anderson to see if they still have some of the yarn I purchased so I can finish my project? I need Misti Alpaca, Colour CP18, Lot #7607 to be specific!
I’m a loom knitter. I’ve tried knitting with needles, but I have trouble with the needles. So I tried loom knitting & found that it really suits me. Also, I’m passionate about crochet, & so that’s my main yarn craft. I was excited to see your blog & your FB page because it shows that there’s an active guild here in the Fraser Valley committed to knitting. I see, too, that you’re also crochet-friendly, & that’s cool to see. Thank-you for sharing the love of knitting & yarn crafts in general. 🙂
Hello, I work at a retirement community and several of our residents would like to teach people to knit. We would like to invite anyone who is interested in knitting to come and join us every Tuesday at 10:30am at Fleetwood Villa 16028 83rd Ave. Surrey. Our phone number is 604-590-2887. Coffee and Tea will be provided. Thanks so much, our seniors would love the company and the opportunity to share!
I went to the craft fair in Chilliwack on Nov. 14th. I am interested in purchasing a couple of pairs of socks for my son who has very large feet, size 15 shoes. I am a terrible knitter. It looks more like crocheting! If any of your members can do this for me I would greatly appreciate it. His foot from heel to end of big toe is 12″. As he says “What did you expect, it’s a foot!!” I live in Chilliwack, moved from Ontario. Please let me know if this is possible. It would be for Christmas.
is this group still happening and if so where do I arrive…have just moved back from Calgary and am interesting
when and where is the next meeting, sounds like a good group, like your motto!
Our next meeting is this Wednesday, Oct. 28th, 2015. It starts at 7:30pm and is held at the Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 16613 Bell Road, Surrey. We meet in the daycare at the back of the church on the lower level. We would be delighted to have you join us.
