December is here!

Welcome to a new month Guild member and guests of all knitting and fiber persuasions.

Our usual modus operandi during December is to have a potluck and socially knit in the lovely home of our member Maureen. Any member who needs the address please contact our membership through the guild e-mail. The potluck will be December 5th. Be there or be square! Have a great holiday and enjoy the weather that inspires so many knits!

It’s time to join the Harvest!  This year we’re able to offer online registration for the Harvest as well as pins being available from Baaad Anna’s, Woolaroo and 88 Stitches.

Click here to go to the online registration form!

The cost to participate is $5, though if you are registering online you will have to pay $5.50 to cover PayPal charges.  Once we’ve received your registration your pin and further information will be mailed to you.  The first 200 Harvesters to register will get a swag bag, so make sure you indicate where you would like to pick yours up, keeping in mind this does not have to be the first store you visit.  If you have any problems with the form, feel free to email yarnharvestcrawl@gmail.com and we’ll help sort things out.

Also, if you sign up to be a Guild member for the 2012-13 year your Yarn Harvest registration is included in the cost!  Please email fvknittingguild@gmail.com if you’re interested in this option as it is not part of the online form.

Online registration will be closed two weeks prior to the event to allow for pins to be mailed out.  If you’ve missed the deadline, pins will still be available in stores.

A bunch of FVKGians went out to see Stephanie Pearl-McPhee (aka Yarn Harlot) speak at the Vancouver Public Library a couple of evenings ago; hosted by Knit Social. In the picture of the audience she posted on her blog, some of us are there in the second row on the right, and that hand waving waaaay in the back is one of us too. (Hi Lisa!)

Several of us were also lucky enough to get into the “Knitting for Speed and Efficiency” classes she taught the next day. Stephanie and the class totally rocked my knitting world. While I was expecting a bunch of tips and practices for polishing my knitting technique, what I was really hoping was that I’d be able to talk her into a demonstration of Lever Knitting.

(What’s Lever Knitting? Google it — it’s an efficient, low-stress, and wicked-fast method of knitting.)

O. M. G. Fully a third of the class was about Lever Knitting! I was/am so delighted, pleased and happy. With Stephanie’s basic instructions and tips, and some diligent practice, I hope to become a proficient Lever Knitter.

Thanks for the excellent “This is Your Brain on Knitting” talk on Wednesday evening, Stephanie. And huge (yarn) baskets of thanks for the class. We’d be delighted to have you back to Vancouver any time.

What fun! What excitement! What excellent knitterly makings we had at the second Vancouver Mini Maker Fair this past weekend!

Organized by our own awesome Jenny, the Guild booth at the Fair was a happening place.

We taught new knitters, provided a haven for experienced knitters to hang out, learned a new skill ourselves, and worked out a pattern mystery for a crocheting sister.

New knitters concentrating intensely

We learned finger-knitting. (I know! How can you be a knitter and not know finger-knitting?)
