This months general meeting was small, but lovely. It was great to see all the members who could make it out, after our Christmas/ holiday break.
We were fortunate to have one of our guild members, Nicole, give us a great program on reclaiming yarn from rescued thrift store sweaters. There was amazing information and even a handout on her notes.
Nicole discussed how to find a good seam, how to test your fibre, and what tools are helpful in rescuing yarn just to name a few areas. She even brought in several fantastic samples of yarn that she has reclaimed. Agora, silk and cashmere to name a few of the fibres involved.
I have to say that I have been thinking about stopping in at a second-hand shop for the last few days. I was so inspired to try her techniques, I just want to jump right in! Luckily I have a few thrift store sweaters at home that I had planned to recycle, so it may be time to try out Nicole’s tips. The handout Nicole was kind enough to bring may be available as we speak to the guild members. Check out our documents page for this fantastic resource!
Thanks again for a fascinating and informative program Nicole! I hope we can all show and tell our own reclaimed treasures at future meetings.
